With this being the case, here are some foods you should start noshing on immediately. Even after summer has come to a close, it’s still a good idea to eat these because they are of benefit to your overall health.

Tomato Products

It’s not good enough to simply say, “eat tomatoes” because it’s not necessarily tomatoes that contain the benefits to your skin. It’s the reddish pigment called lycopene that is. This substance is a powerful antioxidant that helps with heart health, boosting immunity and preserving the skin.

The trick though is to get it in concentrated form. Sure, it’s not a bad idea to chop up a tomato and throw it into your omelet, but there is little lycopene in fresh tomatoes. It is when you get products made from tomatoes that the content increases.

This includes things like tomato paste, tomato sauce, tomato puree, ketchup and salsa. Just be careful when buying condiments because you don’t want high-fructose corn syrup in your body.

Watermelon

It’s funny how many people fear foods like watermelon. These self-appointed experts try to justify it as unhealthy because it’s high in sugar and carbs. Well, if you are a fan of common sense, then let the haters hate, and listen carefully.

Watermelon is actually a nutrient-packed house of fire. It contains an abundance of lycopene, a host of B vitamins, an array of trace minerals, AND an amino acid known as l-citrulline.

When consumed, l-citrulline converts to another essential amino acid known as arginine, which is good for blood vessel health. Additionally, this amino acid has a positive effect on athletic performance.

So by adding watermelon to your regular summer menu, you can not only get benefits from the sun but also with your workouts.

Red Palm Oil

Vitamin A is one of the best vitamins to ward off skin cancer. And guess what vitamin you can find in red palm oil? You go it, vitamin A! It also contains vitamin D, which is good for the heart.

You can use red palm oil in any preparation that you would use coconut oil. It’s very much like it, except it has a red color. And also much like coconut oil, it has a high smoke point, meaning you can cook with it and not have to worry about it becoming hydrogenated.

In similar style as red palm oil, carrots are high in vitamin A. Well, technically, they are high in beta carotene, which converts to vitamin A when you consume it. And for this same reason, carrots help with skin health.

They are also fun to eat, high in fiber and have a decent amount of vitamin C to boot.

Raspberries

A reddish hue to the rescue once again! There’s a sign that they’re good for the skin. Raspberries are also high in vitamin C, which is good for the keratin that gives the skin its elasticity. AND, when you eat raspberries, your natural production of HGH goes up instantly.

A trick of the trade is to drizzle olive oil over them too. This helps with the release of the polyphenols inside. These are the powerful antioxidants that you get from raspberries.

It should also be noted that raspberries are good for the eyes after they have been exposed to the sun. After your eyes have been exposed to the sun, that is.

Last but not least, raspberries are low on the glycemic index, high in fiber and have a generous amount of vitamin K. This is the vitamin that’s important for blood clotting.
